Rantings and Ramblings - 12/8/2011

So the Big East adds SDSU and Boise State to the stable, making it the first coast-to-coast conference. This just solidifies the Big East as the best 2nd tier conference in Div I football and did nothing to bolster the conference in basketball.

Football:

My guess at the divisions. Houston, SMU, Louisville, Cincy make it hard to figure.

East: Central Florida, Houston, UConn, South Florida, Rutgers
West: SDSU, Boise St, SMU, Louisville, Cincinnati

Basketball:

Gtown, Nova, Louisville, UConn, Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette, ND, Providence, Rutgers, St Johns, Seton Hall, South Florida, Central Florida, Houston, SMU

I think Notre Dame is ready to bail out of the Big East. I think that you will see UConn and Notre Dame go to the ACC in the next 2 years with the Irish going ALL sports, including football. The Irish have to go somewhere, and while the Big 10 is the most logical, they may not be welcomed.

Speaking of SMU, June Jones is now staying at SMU b/c his offer from Arizona State was pulled by the president b/c it was “taking too long”. That is the 2nd time now that ASU has ended negotiations with a new coach only to have it ended by the president. Not thinking I would want that job if the president is so touchy about contract negotiations.

Larry Fedora to take over UNC football. Shows that Butch Davis hiring was a grand slam for the school. If you want to be relevant in football, go to a big name. That offensive coordinator in Gainesville might like to be a head coach again. Just sayin….

Update - 12/9 - Wies accepted the head coaching job with Kansas.  Signals to me that the state of University of Florida's football program is worse than anyone thought.

Speaking of Florida…ever think you’d see a poll that didn’t have UM (6-6), FSU (8-4), or UF (6-6) in it? WOW….

How weak was the fact that Tiger won? It didn’t even make a huge splash on SportsCenter. Face it, until he wins something big or gets caught up in another scandal, he’s not newsworthy anymore.

NBA lockout is over and they start playing on Christmas day. Who cares?!?!?!? The NBA is the worst professional sporting organization right now. I’d rather watch MLS Soccer than the NBA, and I can’t tell you one team name or name 5 players in MLS.

Someone please explain how a 5 loss Texas is ranked in the top 25 of the BCS? They beat no ranked teams…shows that BCS has too much love for Big 12. They disappoint every year. In the last 25 years, here is the conference breakdown of National Champions:
